What are physical smartcards?
CSCS physical smartcards
Physical CSCS smartcards store information on the cardholders' identity, qualifications and training. This information can be securely read using Go Smart.
CSCS compatible Partner Card Scheme physical smartcards
Physical compatible CSCS smartcards store information on the cardholders' identity, qualifications and training. This information can be securely read directly from the physical smartcard's chip using Go Smart.
What is the difference between a card read and a full card update?
When physical smartcards are presented, Go Smart will do a 'fast' read and pull the latest information to your device. If there have been any changes made to the card since it was last read, then Go Smart will prompt you to do a 'Full Card Update'. The full card update may take longer to process whilst Go Smart retrieves the latest information.
I am having problems reading cards
CSCS physical smartcards
Every NFC enabled smartphone has a ‘sweet-spot’ on the device where card reading is optimised.
For Android devices the NFC is always at the back of the smartphone and usually towards the top of the device.
For iOS devices the NFC is located near the top of the smartphone, reads can be done by placing the card on the back or front of the device. Once located, ensure that the card is held firmly against this area and kept still whilst it is being read.
Note: an error message will be displayed if the smartcard is moved during the read. Please keep the device still until the card read is complete.
If you still experience problems reading the card, it could be because the card you are attempting to read is not 'smart', the card is damaged or faulty, the card has been moved or removed from the device before Go Smart had finished reading it, or the card may be fake. Check the card using the alternative method on this page.
